Socks In The Frying Pan Tacoma Concert reviews
1st Live Show in...
A great show, what!
I now own it and it's a significant piece of work. So good to see Socks In The Frying Pan do a full show, in support of their new album "Crash of the Crown", their first in some 25 years. They played several new tunes and they were well received.
But it was performances of Blue Collar Man, Fooling Yourself (angry young man), Light Up (a nice surprise), Suite Madame Blue, Renegade, and of course Come Sail Away that is why we all were there! Dennis DeYoung, while noticeably absent, was not missed. Lawrence Gowan is just as accomplished a musician and an equal performer to Dennis. He even resembles the guy, especially wearing the sparkly top hat and tails.
And at 67 and 71 (!!!!) respectively, they're inspiring that we can still do this way beyond our current years! Also, a surprise appearance by Chuck Panozzo (original bass player) who joined the band on stage in the 2nd set and played several tunes was a great thing to see. Tommy Shaw and James "JY" Young tore it up on guitar and vocals.
So happy to be able to see live music again. Despite having to wear a mask throughout - and most people behaved well enough - it was a thoroughly enjoyable event. Hope to do it again real soon!
